Natural, vegan and cruelty free DIY hand cream
As you maybe already know, most of store bought hand creams have a million unnecessary ingredients listed. Some of them are even doing the opposite of the product itself! That makes no sense to me. A big one in many hand creams, is alcohol. This ingredient dries out your skin in seconds, why oh why do they use this? I will never understand. Instead of trying to figure it out, I chose to make my own cream! 100% vegan, safe for your skin and without toxic ingredients guaranteed.
Butters, butters, butters…
One of the most moisturising ingredient for your skin is butters. In the following recipe for your DIY hand cream, we will use shea and cocoa butter. So smooth! The benefits of cacao butter are underestimated. The cacao butter melts at body temperature and works to naturally soothe dry, sensitive skin while reducing and preventing the appearance of scars and unwanted marks. It is even believed to have photo-protective properties that protect against harmful UV radiation. Shea butter is known to be a “skin superfood” that nourishes skin to promote its clarity and addresses problems such as dryness, blemishes, dark spots, discolouration, stretch marks, and wrinkles without clogging pores. You can see how those two butters combined will give your skin everything it needs!
Use of glass to preserve vitamins and minerals
Before i share the recipe with you. I want to let you know a secret about how to preserve your DIY body butters, hand creams, deodorants and other homemade cosmetics. Do not store them in plastic! Oxygen molecules can slip through plastics, while glass is a perfect barrier to keep it out of your products. As glass is non-toxic and free from potentially harmful chemicals, it keeps your product like you intend them to be, all natural. There is even an extra bonus on choosing glass jars and bottles, you save our planet! We don’t need more plastic on this earth, let’s get rid of it together. If you need containers or bottles, you can find them in our shop.
- Melt the coconut oil, shea butter, and raw cacao butter together “au bain marie”
- Remove the bowl from the heat and add in vitamin e oil and orange essential oil. Whisk until combined.
- Place the bowl in the freezer for 20 to 30 minutes until it’s half solidified.
- Using a hand mixer beat the mixture on high for 1 to 2 minutes until a fluffy butter like consistency is achieved.
- Transfer the mixture into a glass container or jar.
That’s it! Now you can use your hand cream whenever you feel they need some TLC!
